Fr. Raymond P. Guiao, S.J.

Rev. Raymond P. Guiao, S.J. to Lead Saint Ignatius High School Cleveland

(Cleveland, OH) – Rev. Raymond P. Guiao, S.J. has been chosen as the 26th president of Saint Ignatius High School.

Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Fr. Guiao graduated from Saint Ignatius High School in 1982. After college, he entered the Society of Jesus in 1986, was ordained to the priesthood in June 1999, and pronounced final vows in the Society of Jesus in 2009. Fr. Guiao currently serves as the Assistant to the Provincial for Formation for the Chicago-Detroit Province of the Society of Jesus, a position he has held since 2008. 


In addition to his Theological studies as prescribed by the Society of Jesus, he received his Bachelor of Arts in English from Case Western Reserve University and holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music. He was a faculty member in both English and Theology at Saint Ignatius from 1992–1995, returning in 2000 to teach Theology and to direct the Choral and Liturgical Music Programs. Fr. Guiao also served for two years as the interim Vice President for Ignatian Mission at Saint Ignatius.

“I am deeply honored to be named by the Board of Regents to be the next president of Saint Ignatius High School,” says Fr. Guiao. “My own vocation to Jesuit priesthood was formed back when I was a student at Saint Ignatius in the early 1980s. Like so many alumni of our school, I feel I owe a lot to Saint Ignatius High School. So, I’m thrilled that I can make some return by serving as the school’s next president.”

Fr. Guiao serves on the boards of trustees for Loyola Academy in Wilmette, IL, and St. Martin de Porres High School in Cleveland, Ohio. He takes the reins of the Cleveland Jesuit school on July 1, 2015. Current president, Rev. William J. Murphy, S.J., will leave at that time to take the next steps toward tertianship and a new ministry.

Murphy and our dedicated faculty and staff.”

About Saint Ignatius High School
Saint Ignatius High School, which opened its doors September 6, 1886, is a Jesuit college preparatory school. The school enrolls nearly 1,500 young men who hail from 98 cities in a seven-county region. Located in close proximity to downtown Cleveland in the historic Ohio City neighborhood, the school sits on 18.5 acres and includes 18 buildings and three athletic fields. The school has 111 faculty members, 91 percent of whom hold advanced degrees. They have an average of 16 years teaching at Saint Ignatius.
